The Yankees sweep the Mets in their second subway series matchup of the regular season, beating the Flushing favorites 4-2 in both games. Clarke Schmidt and Wandy Peralta were credited with the win and save respectively, while Joely Rodriguez got the loss.

Yankees Open the Evening

After quiet early innings, Aaron Judge gave New York a reason to stand. With two out on a 6-4-3 double play and a full count, Judge had the weight of Yankee Stadium on his shoulders. Looks like he performs well under pressure, as seen with his solo homer to make it onto the scoreboard.

Dealing with a bases-loaded situation, Mets starting pitcher Taijuan Walker walked Oswaldo Cabrera, forcing Anthony Rizzo in to score to double to lead to 2-0 before ending the inning.

Mets Respond

With runners on second and third, the time was ripe for Starling Marte’s at-bat. On the second pitch, he saw he got a base hit, scoring Mark Canha, to cut the lead in half.

The Mets make it a tie game with some smart base running from Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil. McNeil hit the ball into the gap in right field and made it to second base in the meantime. By the time Judge threw the ball from the warning track to 2nd base, Alonso was going around 3rd. Once he realized that the Yankees were going after McNeil, Alonso bolted for home plate; McNeil made it to second base safely anyway, scoring Alonso with an RBI double.

Yankees Break the Tie

With runners on the corners, up and coming Andrew Benintendi hit an RBI single to score Cabrera to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh.

To keep the ball rolling, Judge hit an RBI single to score pinch-hitting Jose Trevino for a 4-2 lead.
