The Detroit Pistons’ newest duo packed a powerful punch in the NBA 2K24 Summer League
The latest acquisitions to the Detroit Pistons had an outstanding showing in this year’s NBA Summer League.
The first impressions of Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser
The Pistons’ rookie duo has already exceeded everyone’s expectations. Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser have left an overwhelmingly positive first impression, showcasing their talents in the 2K24 NBA Summer League at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. Their display of talents foretells a promising future ahead. With the potential to immediately impact the team in the upcoming season, both players bring such a bright outlook to the franchise.
Starting with Ausar Thompson, who was selected as the number fifth pick, had an incredible Summer League performance against the San Antonio Spurs. Despite a total of 8 lead changes throughout the game, Ausar Thompson continued to display his impressiveness throughout, going 6-for-12 shooting from the field and 2–for-5 from behind the arc, adding a total of 18 points to the stat sheet, along with 14 rebounds.
A particular play that put the exclamation point on everything he showcased, was at the end of the second quarter with less than 3 minutes left, with an emphatic put-back dunk that caught the league’s attention very quickly. Thompson has always been ready for big-time moments like such.
Aside from his offensive side to his game, he possesses that defensive prowess that turns into instant offense – and he is very capable of being one of the best small forwards in the game and can excel in his new role as such a valuable addition to the team.
Next is the 25th pick Marcus Sasser – whom the Pistons received out of a trade deal with the Boston Celtics, exhibited such an exceptional command over running the offense dropping 40 points, going 16-25 from the field and 5-9 from 3, along with 5 assists, for the Detroit win over the Indiana Pacers. Sasser scored the most points by any player in the 2023 Summer League. He proved his exceptional array of shooting skills by showing that he can create space, making just enough room to knock down shots, leaving no doubt about his abilities. He seamlessly adapted to the league, maintaining the same level of vigor from his tenure as a Houston Cougar – demonstrating why he can be deemed a draft steal.
