
Celtics made history last night as they won their 18th NBA Title in franchise history surpassing the Lakers with seventeen. While the Mavericks faltered, they had their heads held high after making history during Game 4. Shooting Forward Jayson Tatum had an impressive game putting in 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 11 assists. Tatum’s effort proved decisive, as the Boston Celtics (64-18) secured an NBA Championship against the Dallas Mavericks (50-32) 106-88 at home at TD Garden.
The Boston Celtics came into this game with much to prove after losing to the Mavericks away from home in Game 4, 122-84. The Mavericks were looking for a similar result tonight to continue making history and stay in the series, but the Celtics came out on top and secured an NBA Championship.
Celtics Set the Tone Early, Mavericks Looked to Respond
The first half was a very one-sided affair as the Celtics set the tone early and made it known they wanted the championship decided in Boston to bring joy to their fans. The Mavericks, although outscored, looked to respond. The first quarter ended with the Celtics trailing by ten as the quarter ended 28-18. For the Celtics, it was Point Guard Jrue Holiday who was racking up the points with 6 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. For the Mavericks, it was Point Guard Luka Doncic with 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.
The second quarter saw the Celtics staying in the lead. The Mavericks still fought and stayed in the game as the second quarter finished with the score in the Celtic’s favor 39-28. For the Celtics, it was Shooting Forward Jayson Tatum providing the difference as he put in 12 points, 1 rebound, and 5 assists. For the Mavericks, it was Shooting Forward Derrick Jones Jr with 10 points.
Celtics Maintained Lead and Made History, Mavericks Fought Valiantly
The Mavericks fought hard, but the Celtics continued to maintain the lead and were on course to make history and win the NBA Championship, the third-quarter score ended in the Maverick’s favor, 21-19, but the overall score had the Mavericks still trailing by 19, at 86-67. Holiday led the way for the Celtics, putting in 4 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. For the Mavericks, it was Doncic who put up 9 points and 5 rebounds.
The fourth quarter ended with the final buzzer sounding as the Celtics made history and secured their 18th NBA Championship surpassing the Lakers tally of 17. The fourth quarter ended in Maverick’s favor 21-20, but the Celtics secured the NBA Championship with a final score of 106-88. The Mavericks fought and had the lead, but couldn’t stop Boston’s confidence and want for the championship. Their fight was mostly in part due to the performances of Doncic who finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. Tatum was great for the Celtics as he contributed an impressive tally of 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 11 assists.
What’s Next?
The Celtics will now look to replicate their championship run and win another trophy next season.
The Mavericks will be upset about the loss, but will now look to quickly turn the page and look towards next season, be proud of what they’ve accomplished by being able to make the NBA Finals this year, and now look to do better next year.
