The Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers faced off in a division matchup on Sunday, September 26th, 2021.
The visiting Bengals started the scoring in the first quarter. Tyler Boyd hauled in a 17-yard pass from Joe Burrow to give the Bengals a 7-0 lead. Pittsburgh would tie the score up at 7-7 with a second-quarter touchdown. Pat Freiermuth caught a four-yard pass from Ben Roethlisberger to even things out.
The Bengals however would pull ahead before halftime with a quick strike. This time it was Burrow to Ja’Marr Chase from 34-yards out to give Cincinnati a 14-7 halftime lead.
Even McPherson added a 43-yard field goal in the third quarter to put the Bengals up 17-7. Cincinnati would add another touchdown, once more Burrow to Chase from nine yards out to make the score 24-7. Chris Boswell chipped in a fourth-quarter field goal for Pittsburgh and the final went 24-10 Bengals.
Burrow threw for 172 yards on 14-18 passing to go with his three touchdowns. He also threw an interception but wasn’t sacked. Roethlisberger went 38-58 for 318 yards, a single touchdown, and two interceptions. Chase had four catches for 65 yards to go with his pair of scores. Najee Harris caught 14 passes for 102 yards while rushing for 40 yards on 14 carries. Joe Mixon ran for 90 yards on 14 carries.
The Bengals’ defense sacked Roethlisberger four times. Logan Wilson also had a 14 total tackle day, including six solo stops to lead all defenders. Joe Schobert, Terrell Edmonds, and Cameron Hayward each had a team-best five total tackles for Pittsburgh.
The Bengals improved to 2-1, while the Steelers fell to 1-2 this season. Cincinnati hosts Jacksonville on September 30th at 8:20 pm. The Steelers’ next game is October 3rd, 2021 at 4:25 p, when they travel to Green Bay to play the Packers.
