
The Motor City Cruise won in an epic battle against the Westchester Knicks at Wayne State Fieldhouse, with a final score of 119-116.
The Cruise showcased their resilience and determination, redeeming themselves from their first game in a back-to-back matchup against the Knicks. The Cruise established a lead of as much as 20 points, showing signs of commanding the court on both offense and defense.
However, the Knicks mounted a comeback, narrowing their deficit to just four points with 10:19 remaining on the clock in the fourth. Each possession became critical with momentum shifting back and forth between the two teams.
Jared Rhoden knocked down a clutch three-pointer that ignited a surge of energy. Throughout the quarter, the Knicks’ Duane Washington was their go-to guy, who consistently delivered impactful plays whenever the momentum swung in favor of the Cruise that kept his team within striking distance.
The Cruise never let up and continued to assert their dominance, especially Toson Evbuomwan who electrified the crowd with a thunderous dunk. Tosan Evbuomwan – fresh off a 10-day contract with the Detroit Pistons and now a two-way player, led the Motor City Cruise charge with 25 points and 8 rebounds, displaying his versatility on both ends of the floor.
The Knicks refused to go down without a fight as Washington stepped up again and drained a triple that tied everything up at 116 apiece.
Coming back in from a Cruise timeout, Buddy Boeheim was the story to this win. He seized the moment with a mere 0.8 seconds left, sinking a fadeaway three-pointer that sealed the victory for the Cruise. Boeheim continues to prove why he is one of the League’s premier shooters.
Complementing Boeheim’s display, there was a stellar showing from a lot of Cruise players. Jared Rhoden had 24 points and Nathan Knight closely followed with 21. Stanley Umude rounded everything out scored 15 points and grabbed an impressive 15 rebounds.
For the Westchester Knicks, Duane Washington tallied 31 points shooting 7-16 from beyond the arc, and added 10 boards. Brandon Goodwin had a 21-point performance, along with 8 rebounds and 8 assists.
With this hard-fought win under Motor City’s belt, Boeheim expressed confidence in the Cruise’s ability to make a playoff run emphasizing the team’s depth and talent.
“Huge win, we can win any game from here on out. We are going to take it one game at a time, this group is really good, really talented. It is just about getting together, you know. This is our second game back altogether, so we have been shuffling through lineups, and we got a good thing going right now and we are going to build off this for sure.”
What’s Next?
The Motor City Cruise will head to Washington D.C., to face the Capital City Go-Go at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
