Looking forward to the next chapter
“I am so happy to be fighting at Little Caesars Arena. They gave me the opportunity not once but twice so far, and I hope they give me the opportunity ten more times,” Shields said. “Just to know that I’m a big enough star to sell out 18,000 tickets — to be able to be invited back to come here, showcase another world championship fight, and have all my fans come out. You know I’m going to have a fabulous walk out as always, fabulous outfit, and I just look forward to doing it all once again.”
Shields, a powerhouse in the ring, stepped up two weight classes to vie for a world title in a fourth division against Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse at 175 pounds.
Regardless of the weight class, Shields’s confidence remains unshaken. Asserting her readiness to take on this new challenge with a high-intensity training camp.
“Training camp has been extremely hard. I’m not going to say it’s been easy. Benching 185 pounds, trying to get to 205, squatting 250, going for 300 pounds, it’s a lot. My legs have been getting bigger, my back is getting bigger. I’m just building my power and making sure I have everything to keep Vanessa off me, give my respect, and, of course, to come out victorious in this heavyweight match.” Shields on working towards her upcoming season.
Claressa Shields’ top-tier resume includes:
