Big Bad Wolves: NC State Upsets Clemson

The Clemson Tigers have made quite the home in the college football top 25 poll. Most of those weeks they went no lower than the top 10 teams in the country.  However, after 97 weeks in a row, they have been blown down all the way to the 25th spot in the nation. This comes after a loss to ACC for North Carolina State Wolfpack.

The Tigers and Wolfpack exchanged first-quarter touchdowns. Clemson’s came on a Justyn Ross 32-yard pass from D.J. Uiagalelei. NC State scored on an Emeka Emezie 9-yard pass from Devin Leary to tie the game at seven. Neither team scored during the second quarter and it went to half time also tied at one touchdown apiece.

Devin Carter caught a 12-yard pass from Leary to put NC State up 14-7 in the third quarter. A Will Shipley 5-yard run in the fourth quarter tied the score at 14 in the fourth quarter. 14014 was the score at the end of regulation as this game would require overtime to finish.

In the first overtime, it was Ross from Uiagalelei from nine yards out to put Clemson up 21-14. Thayer Thomas then caught a two-yard pass from Leary to even up the score at 21-21 and force a second overtime.

Carter would haul in his second touchdown of the day for NC State, this time from 22 yards out. A failed two-point conversion attempt gave the Wolfpack a 27-21 upset win.  The win dropped Clemson to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference. NC State improves to 3-1 overall with a 1-0 conference mark. Clemson plays host to Boston College on Saturday, October 2nd, 2021.
